American Dirge (2023)
A journey through the backlands of the soul.
Sam, a struggling folk-country singer, lost himself while trying to make a living in Los Angeles. Affected by an alcohol induced disease he decides to leave the city behind to revisit his father and his past in Louisiana for the last time.
American Dirge is an ill success story about the emptyness of non-recognition, the susceptibility for addiction and an overwhelming heritage imposed by country and family.
With the coarseness of a gritty street poem American Dirge reflects Sam‘s personal catharsis and embodies the American nightmare, the maltreated soul of a country that lived through better days. The film is loosely based on the metaphorical meanings of Sam’s songs, inspired by the traditional country & folk music and life itself.
